Yiyun Gu and Sandy Lin with Dana Czarski

This performance will comprise of two sections, the first being a 45 minute set featuring Yiyun Gu (piano) and Sandy Lin (flute) from 1:00-1:45pm. With short interval after the first section they will be followed by guest performer Dana Czarski who will be accompanied by a violinist. Below are the biographies of Gu and Lin along with their program.

Sandy Lin graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School in 2006, and went on to complete her Bachelor of Music with Honours at the University of Melbourne in 2010, studying under Alan Hardy, Margaret Crawford, Mardi McSullea and Derek Jones. Sandy obtained her Master of Teaching and Graduate Diploma of Education in 2013, specialising in Classroom and Instrumental Music at the University of Melbourne.

Sandy was awarded her Associate Diploma in Music in 2003 and Licentiate Diploma in Music with Distinction in 2008. She was also the recipient of the prestigious Leslie Barklamb Flute Scholarship in 2009. Sandy has previously performed with the Melbourne University Symphony Orchestra, and Orchestra Nouveau.

Sandy has been teaching the flute since 2006, and is passionate about instrumental music education. She draws inspiration from a multitude of written, aural and visual resources as well as her own personal experience as a teacher and musician to provide all students with the greatest opportunity to develop their artistic and musical talents. Sandy currently teaches music and flute at Sacré Cœur in Glen Iris.

 

 

yiyun gu

Yiyun Gu is a young pianist based in Melbourne. She completed Master of Music at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music under Stephen McIntyre AM. Yiyun was born in Shanghai, and started to learn piano at the age of 3.

In early 2014, she performed in 3MBS ‘Talent’ Live Broadcast. She competed in the 6th China International Piano Competition and Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition in Australia in 2013. In March 2013, she performed for 3MBS Beethoven Marathon at The Edge in Federation Square, Melbourne. Yiyun was one of the finalists of the Australian National Piano Award in 2012. In 2011, she performed with the Melbourne University Symphony Orchestra at Melbourne Town Hall, and was selected to participate in the Australia National Academy of Music Festival. In 2009, Yiyun gave a Debussy recital for 3MBS FM “Live at the Convent” program. Yiyun performs regularly around Melbourne.
